A fourth
teenager has been arrested in connection with the “savage and brutal” murder of
a 14-year-old boy found dead in a cemetery.
A 19-year-old man was arrested on Friday and has been detained for questioning,
while two other men, aged 19 and 18, remain in police custody. All three are
from Carlisle.
A 16-year-old who was arrested on Thursday, also from Carlisle, has since been
released on police bail. It is not believed that he was directly involved in the
murder, detectives have said.
Jordan Watson, 14, was discovered in a secluded part of Upperby cemetery, next
to St John the Baptist church in Manor Road, Carlisle, Cumbria, by a member of
the public at about 7.45am on Tuesday. A postmortem examination revealed that
the teenager, from Ridley Road in the city, died from multiple wounds to the
head and neck caused by a sharp implement.
Cumbria police have appealed for help from the public, particularly anyone who
saw or heard anything unusual in the area, or saw Jordan on Monday or the early
hours of Tuesday morning. He is described as 5ft tall, of slim build and with
brown hair. He was wearing a grey and blue hooded top, black Adidas T-shirt,
grey tracksuit bottoms and grey Nike trainers.
Jordan was described by friends and family as a cheeky, good-humoured boy. In a
statement released on Wednesday night, they said: “Jordan’s favourite expression
was ‘yolo’ – you only live once. Jordan lived by this motto – he had a strong
personality and a love of the outdoors.”

Becky Watts:
two held on
suspicion of murder
The 28-year-old man and 21-year-old woman arrested Saturday on suspicion of
kidnapping 16-year-old
have been further arrested on suspicion of murder
Hopes that the
missing Bristol teenager Becky Watts may yet be found alive were dealt a blow
after police revealed they had arrested a man and woman on suspicion of her
kidnap and murder.
A huge hunt involving scores of officers and hundreds of members of the public
has taken place following 16-year-old Becky’s disappearance from her home 11
days ago but neither the girl nor her body have been traced.
Avon and Somerset police revealed that they had arrested a 28-year-old man and
21-year-old woman over the weekend for the suspected kidnapping of Becky.
Detectives further arrested them on Monday on suspicion of her murder. They
remain in custody.
DS Mike Courtiour said the search for Becky was at a critical point and the hunt
for her “continues unabated”.
But he added: “Becky’s family are understandably distraught and we are working
closely with them to support them at this difficult time.”
Courtiour refused to say if Becky knew the arrested pair or whether they were
linked to the properties being searched.
He added: “I’m not in a position to discuss in any detail the investigative
actions we are taking. This is a very sensitive investigation and I’m not in a
position to talk about the identity of those in custody.”
Courtiour confirmed that Becky’s body had not been found though an intensive
search continued. He said: “We cannot say where Becky is at the moment. We are
still searching for Becky. There is sufficient information available to us to
justify the arrests of those in custody. However, the search for Becky
continues.”
Police went to a district judge in Bristol on Monday morning and were given a
further 36 hours to question two people arrested. They will have to release
them, charge them or return to the court and ask for more time to hold them by
Tuesday evening. They could hold them for a maximum of 96 hours from the time
they were arrested on Saturday afternoon.

Detectives focused searches on three properties – Becky’s home in the St George
area of Bristol to the east of the city centre, a modern terraced house in
Barton Hill two miles away and a house and street in Southmead, five miles
across Bristol from Becky’s address.
Courtiour also made a fresh appeal for information about a black Vauxhall Zafira
with the registration HY06 HYA, that the police want to find out more about.
Police are particularly keen to hear about the vehicle’s movements between the
morning of Thursday 19 February – when Becky was last seen - and Monday 23
February.
A force spokesperson said: “We also need to speak to any previous owners of this
vehicle. If you have owned this car in the last few years, we need to speak to
you as a matter of urgency. We have seized this car but need the public’s help
in piecing together where it might have been.”
Neighbours of the Southmead address – in Wilton Close - said officers searched a
black Zafira there and took it away. They said the vehicle had been in the
street for around a week – but did not belong to anyone who lived locally.
Officers continued to search a corner house and scruffy garden at Wilton Close
and surrounding scrubland.
Tents were erected by police in the street outside the Barton Hill address,
Cotton Mill Lane, and in the garden. Neighbours there said a man and woman in
their 20s lived there, possibly with a young child. One neighbour claimed the
man drove a Zafira.
Another said: “Nobody really knows who they are. They pretty much kept
themselves to themselves. I couldn’t tell you anything about them.”
At the weekend, Becky’s father and stepmother, Darren and Angie-Mae Galsworthy,
released a statement confirming police had told them of the arrests.
They said: “Rebecca has still not been found. We continue to hope that she will
be found safe and unharmed, but we will prepare ourselves for the worst.”
Galsworthy told ITV News on Monday that his family “need closure”.
“It’s an absolute hell on earth nightmare that seems to be going on and on
forever,” he said. “We just need closure, we want it all to go away, get
everything back to normal, get my little girl home.”
Writing on Facebook on Monday morning, Becky’s aunt Sarah Broom said: “Just to
add for those that need a few facts for today before their know-nothing
speculation drips out their mouths here’s two for you!! Neither person arrested
are my family and neither house being searched is any thing to do with my
family’s either! We’re all still very much together with the same goal we
started out with and that is to find Becky safe.”
Officers from five police forces are taking part in the search for Becky, who is
believed to have disappeared without any money or a change of clothes.
Courtiour said: “We are drawing upon all possible resources to help us.
Additional officers from Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Devon and Cornwall and
police dogs from South Wales police have been drafted in and support from the
police helicopter.
“Search and missing persons’ experts from the National Crime Agency, College of
Policing and national missing persons organisations continue to work with our
enquiry team.
“We have extended our search parameters to include a house in Southmead and one
in the Barton Hill area of Bristol. These are detailed, forensic searches which
will take some time to complete.
“We continue to carry out both open land searches and detailed house to house
enquiries in the local area. We have also conducted extensive CCTV enquiries and
detailed analysis of traffic cameras in the area.
“I would appeal once again for anyone who may have any information on this case
to come forward immediately. Someone out there might have vital information
which could help us find Becky.
“We have also been impressed by the level of engagement we have had with our
online drive to find Becky. The #FindBecky campaign has reached thousands of
people and the total reach for our social media campaign has now reached more
than 4 million people worldwide.”
